  • Scuba Diving's Top 100 Gold List

    The Cayman Islands dive industry has done it again and brought home top honors is the 2012 Annual Top 100 and Gold List by Scuba Diving Magazine. The awards are divided in to the Overall Destination Awards alongside the individual company awards.

    Individual dive shops and dive resorts were recognized in the Gold List with Grand Cayman's Ocean Frontiers rated as the best dive shop in the Cayman Islands. Cayman's Dive Resorts also made the list with Compass Point Dive Resort taking the top spots as best dive resorts in the Cayman Islands.

    Other Cayman accolades on the Gold List include Best Wreck dive with the Capt Keith Tibbetts in Cayman Brac, Best Animal Encounter with Stingray City, Best Family Destination, Best Beaches, Best Night Life and Best Wall Diving were all credited to the Cayman Islands.

    For the prestigious Destination Awards, Caribbean Region, Cayman ranked in 8 of the 12 categories and took the top spot (tied with Bonaire) for Best Destination Overall. Cayman also took top honors for Best Photography destination, which comes as no surprise with the
    crystal clear waters and friendly marine life willing to pose for that perfect picture.

    Since 1994, Scuba Diving Magazine has turned to their readers to rate dozens of destinations to determine Scuba Diving’s exclusive Top 100 Readers’ Choice Awards and Gold List. Thousands of their readers and subscribers took trips to their favorite destinations to reveal what they think is the best the dive world has to offer today. For the last 19 years that these awards have existed, the Cayman Islands has placed at or near the top in several of the categories. These awards demonstrate the value and quality of the overall experience the destination provides.

AN OCEAN FRONTIERS RETROSPECTIVE


The Ocean Frontiers dive shop story began back in 1996, opening on Valentines day, with one boat, only 3 staff,  2 of which were the owners- Steve & Mo,  and only a single scuba diving customer with the boat all to herself!   The core of why Ocean Frontiers ever began was rooted in the pure quality of Cayman's East End diving, without the firm knowledge that the dive sites in the East End district were the best in the Cayman Islands- the Ocean Frontiers dive shop would never have happened.   We always knew that if the diving is as good as we say it is, the divers will find us and they will come. 

Some of the adventures over the years include exploring the shipwrecks of the East End with Dr Peggy Leshikar-Denton, tagging and satellite tracking Green Sea Turtles,  research dives for the Shark Awareness Program with Dr Guy Harvey and his team,  sunrise Stingray snorkeling,  underwater yoga with Steve Schultz,  diving the barge wreck on 12 Mile Bank, underwater weddings and mass coral spawning night dives with Dr Alex Mustard.... to name a few.  Our dedication to the diving industry and our natural resources has won Ocean Frontiers the PADI Project Aware Environmental Achievement Award.
