Scuba Refresher Options in the Cayman Islands

Scuba Refresher Options in the Cayman Islands
Every scuba diver has 2 realities, what we think we remember about scuba diving and what we actually remember when we jump off the dive boat. Refreshers are an important part of being a scuba diver.

Trips Per Diver

We highly recommend all divers to conduct a pool self-check upon arrival to ensure you are familiar with your gear, try any new additions you might have added and verify that everything is in working order before your scheduled dives with us. This can give you a much clearer idea of what you think you remember about scuba diving versus being faced with actually using the scuba gear underwater within the safe confines of the pool. We want the best for you and your diving experience with us and the best way to ease back into scuba diving is by joining us for a shallow 1-Tank orientation boat dive on our house reef.

Our PADI ReActivate option (included in the list below) is ultimately the best way to review your understanding of scuba diving risks and practice the essential scuba skills and safety checks required of a responsible dive buddy. We offer a premium service to all our ReActivate divers by including the eLearning in our course price so there's less steps for you and more free-time spent learning and having fun. The course paperwork will also be sent ahead of your arrival to be filled out online to ensure there are no unexpected delays to the start of your course with us. NOTE: The PADI ReActivate program requires you to be medically fit to dive (review the Medical Questionnaire here).

How long has it been since your last dive?

1 to 2 years

  • We require you to do a Pool Self-Check.
  • This is unsupervised by Ocean Frontiers staff and is strictly to be done only by certified divers with a buddy.
  • If you are a solo traveller - a staff member may be available upon request only.
  • This should be done with your own equipment if you have it or the gear you will be renting.
  • The best use of this self check would be to do - at the very least - the following:
    • Ensure you know exactly how your dive computer works and how to view your dive log.
    • Setup your own equipment, enter the pool and do a predive safety check.
    • In the shallow end, attempt a regulator recovery and mask removal and replace.
    • Surface and orally inflate your BCD.
    • Descend over the deep end into a hover without touching the bottom.
    • Without looking, do a touch test with every component of your BCD, familiarising the exact location of everything.
    • Swim around and practice good breathing and kicking habits.
    • Ascend slowly and inflate your BCD with the power inflator upon surfacing.

3 to 4 years - Option 1 - US $ 80

  • We require you to to do a Pool Self-Check & 1 Tank Orientation Dive
  • The Pool Self-Check is unsupervised by Ocean Frontiers staff and is strictly to be done only by certified divers with a buddy.
  • If you are a solo traveller - a staff member may be available upon request only.
  • Following the pool check, you will be taken out on our student dive boat with an instructor to a shallow reef with a maximum depth of 23 feet (7 metres).
  • This will help you ease back into scuba diving, giving you the best opportunity to practice hovering, mask skills and equalising before diving off the Cayman Wall.
  • NOTE: This only includes the cost of the dive + air tanks & weights. Rental gear is not included.

3 to 4 years - Option 2 - (Private Guide for 2Tank = $ 125 / 1Tank = $ 100)

  • We require you to do a Pool Self-Check & Private Guide add-on.
  • The Pool Self-Check is unsupervised by Ocean Frontiers staff and is strictly to be done only by certified divers with a buddy.
  • If you are a solo traveller - a staff member may be available upon request only.
  • Following the pool check, on your first dive trip booked with us, you will meet your private dive guide.
  • The private guide will be one of our instructors who is dedicated to just you throughout the dive trip.
  • This ensures you can go at your own pace, preferred depth and get the most out of having your own experienced dive guide.
  • NOTE: This only includes the cost of a private guide and is priced as an add-on to your dive package. Rental gear and the dive trip itself are not included.

5 to 9 years - Option 4 - US $ 350

  • We require you to join the PADI ReActivate program & 1 Tank Orientation Dive
  • This ensures that your foundation of scuba diving knowledge and skills are reactivated before returning to the underwater world.
  • This full day program starts with a morning pool session led by one of our patient instructors guiding you through all the essential skills at your own pace.
  • Following the pool review, they will accompany you in the afternoon on a 1 Tank orientation dive.
  • This shallow dive takes place on a nearby site within the barrier reef to a maximum depth of 23 feet (7 metres).
  • PADI ReActivate premium course:
    • includes Training Fees, Pool Session, Tanks & Weights, 1 Tank Orientation Dive (US$ 275)
    • includes PADI eLearning & ReActivate eCard (US$ 75)
    • includes PADI Mobile App Digital Logbook
  • Independent Online Study Commitment: 2 - 3 hours
  • 1 Full Day of scuba training at Ocean Frontiers

NOTE: Rental gear is not included.

10+ years

NOTE: Any certified diver may upgrade to a more comprehensive option (ie - upgrading from Option 2 to Option 3) regardless of their time spend out of the water. The above policies are general requirements and can be changed, modified or altered at the discretion of Ocean Frontiers management for the safety and enjoyment of our customers and dive staff.

How do I get started with PADI eLearning?

Once you have booked and paid for your PADI course with us, we will send you a student registration Google Form to fill out with the necessary information we need to assign the PADI eLearning to each student that has signed up with you. This includes a unique email address per student, birthdate and legal names. You will then receive 2 emails directly from PADI. 1) is to create a PADI account and start the eLearning course 2) is the course paperwork including the Diver Medical which needs to be filled out before arriving.

How long do you have to complete the eLearning course?

You have lifetime access to the eLearning content, however the quizzes, exam and practical training all need to be completed within one year to meet the standards of a PADI course.

How do you document that you've completed the eLearning segment?

Once you finish the eLearning portion of the course, the Ocean Frontiers Dive Center is notified that you have completed it and that you are ready for the practical phase of the program.

I already bought the PADI eLearning, do I have to pay full price for the course with Ocean Frontiers?

No, you do not. Feel free to contact reservations@oceanfrontiers.com in respect to this and they will tailor a course package for you.
