Rays have been around for hundreds of millions of years, yet we know surprisingly little about these majestic creatures. This program explores the biology and behavior of these graceful animals, from the common stingray hiding in the sand to the majestic giant manta ray gliding through the open ocean. This course is your chance to learn what makes a ray a ray, how they differ from sharks, and how to identify various species.
By participating in the Manta & Ray Ecology program, you will gain the knowledge and skills to safely observe rays and contribute to their conservation. You'll understand their economic and ecological importance and the growing role of ecotourism in their survival.

We commonly see Southern Stingrays (Hypanus americanus). They are the predominant stingrays found at the world renown Stingray City sandbar in Grand Cayman. We also commonly see Spotted Eagle Rays (Aetobatus narinari). Occasionally we see Yellow Rays (Urobatis jamaicensis).
The online course content for the Manta and Ray Ecology should take a student between 3 and 6 hours to complete. This can be done on a desktop or mobile device.
