Invasive Lionfish Hunter
NOTE: There is no PADI eLearning for this course
The lionfish invasion in the Northwestern Atlantic and the Caribbean represents one of the most rapid and devastating fish invasions in history. These predators are wreaking havoc on native reef fish populations and disrupting the delicate balance of our ocean's ecosystems. This program explores the biology and behavior of invasive lionfish, their profound impact on our reefs, and why their populations must be controlled. This course is your chance to learn what makes lionfish such a successful invader and how you can become part of the solution.
By participating in the Invasive Lionfish Hunter program, you will gain the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively hunt and remove this invasive species. You'll understand their ecological importance in their native range versus their devastating impact as an invasive species, and the crucial role that divers play in mitigating this ecological crisis.
What you will learn
- The key characteristics that distinguish the two invasive lionfish species, Pterois volitans and Pterois miles, and their native habitats and behaviors.

- The ecological and economic value of native species and the threats they face from the lionfish invasion.
