Named after Patricia Schaar, the old Cayman Diving Lodge manager in the 1980s, Pat's Wall sits next to its famous neighbor Jack McKenney's Canyons and is often overshadowed by it — unfairly so. Just east of the mooring pin, a canyon leads to the drop-off where savvy divers can find a narrow yet superb swim-through running parallel to the wall for a good few minutes. After turning right to exit, doubling back west as you shallow up brings you to an enormous, pronounced buttress that is a haven for immense schools of fish, making Pat's Wall one of the fishiest sites on the East End.
Keep your eyes scanning out into the blue off the wall — some of the best Hammerhead sightings on East End occur in this area. The first clue is an enormous dorsal fin compared with the smaller Caribbean Reef Sharks, followed by the graceful S-turning movement as it glides through the water, and finally the conclusive hammer-shaped head. Get your camera ready and savor the moment — Hammerhead encounters here are rare and unforgettable.
