Before GPS and mooring balls, captains would line their boats up with a palm tree on shore that had grown crooked into the shape of the omega symbol to find this site. Omega Reef starts strong right under the boat with a miniwall crammed with life — its sheltered location allows coral and sponges to proliferate even in the shallows, where the full spectrum of color is visible at just 25 feet without any light absorption from depth. The result is a kaleidoscope of vibrant marine color.
Omega Reef offers a special two-for-one deal: after enjoying the miniwall, head due north for just a few minutes to reach the main wall at 60 feet on top. Although not a traditional wall dive, a leisurely cruise to the drop-off and back is a rewarding way to explore the full extent of the site. Look for the occasional Cero — sometimes called Kingfish — speeding purposefully through the water column.
