Historic Anchor Discovered in Bodden Town
  • Since February 2011, Ocean Frontiers has been hunting high and low for the invasive Red Lionfish that has invaded our reef systems.  During these hunts, we often find unexpected objects, which are normally in the form of some kind of marine life. However, on Sunday January 9th, 2012, we were fortunate enough to swim right over a very old and historical anchor on the reefs just off shore in Bodden Town.
  • You can see how the anchor was wedged under the coral ledge with little hope of the ships crew retrieving this large anchor.  We have submitted this photo to the National Museum and hope to have some more insights to share soon as to the type and approximate age of the anchor.
  • The great and unexpected experience on Lionfish Hunts, is the discovery of such incredible historical finds.  Remember to keep a look out on your next dive, you never know what that unnatural looking object you just swam over might be.  The Cayman Islands was the land of the pirates in centuries past.
