We’re at it again with an all new take on an Ocean Frontiers’ original, the 3-Tank Safari. As if diving all 55 dive sites on Grand Cayman’s East End wasn’t enough, we’ve always enjoyed pushing the frontier and taking our customers to dive sites they have never seen before.
Originally the 3-Tank Safari consisted of a ‘Best of Cayman’ kind of experience with a fixed itinerary of dive sites, including: Babylon, Stingray City and Snapper Hole (weather permitting). As our repeat business built, the interest to include a Stingray scuba dive in the trip was shrinking and at that point we took a new direction. The trip then changed to 3 ‘real’ dive sites, all of which were outside of the East End dive zone, at new sites along the north wall. The revised 3-Tank also only ran in the summer when the dive conditions were more reliable and favorable for diving on the north coast.
Starting in May 2013, we are pleased to announce the 3rd generation of this signature trip. We’re taking it one step further with this Ocean Frontiers exclusive, with the following improvements:
All dives will be ‘Off-the-Map’
3-Tank will run year round
Offer a north and south itinerary varying with weather and time of year
Lunch served on board (optional, US$10 addl.)
Scheduled to run on Eastern Skies, our largest dive boat
All computer diving (Nitrox recommended)
Almost three years in the making, Ocean Frontiers has been mapping out large sections of the wall and reef on the remaining uncharted dive zones on Grand Cayman. The northern area between Rum Point and Old Man Bay has almost 10km of wall and reef, with only had a handful (3) of moored sites and had remained isolated from divers for decades. As a result of potluck and dedicated mile long scooter survey dives, we have a fresh line-up of North Wall sites that will satisfy even the most seasoned Cayman Islands diver.
Not to be outdone with just adding one whole new dive zone to our program, the reef shelf between Breakers and Beach Bay was truly the forgotten frontier, which had been keeping almost 9km of reefs and walls in solitude. The uncovering of this Grand Cayman dive zone came as a by-product of Ocean Frontiers’ monthly 3-Tank Lionfish Culling trips that we have been conducting for the last 14 months. By meticulously checking off every 500m of reef in search of invasive Lionfish, more often than not we would surface from the dive with plans to return.
You can look forward to exploring dive sites such as: Hobbit’s Hide-out, Dez’s Donut, Rocket Reef, Over the Edge and many more. Not to be missed and sure to be a favorite for those who think they have seen it all.
