Named after Julie, a local nurse who loved shore diving here on weekends, Julie's Wall is the last of the northern dive sites before a government-protected no-dive zone begins. While not as well-known as its neighbors, it is a fantastic site that delivers a rare phenomenon shared with only one other East End dive — the opportunity to swim underneath an overhanging wall. This continually twilight environment is ideal for large, vibrant sponges that usually live much deeper, making for an extraordinary visual experience despite the shallow depths.
A miniwall sits close to the main wall, allowing divers to enjoy both worlds in a single dive. The shadowy realms of the deep overhang are just a short swim from the bright, sunlit mini wall. Look for Porcupine Puffer Fish swimming just above the reef — with their lovably blunt faces, bulging eyes, and tiny mouths, they often allow a slow approach and can grow surprisingly large, sometimes over two feet long.
