Prepare to spend a long time down there — this site is shallow. Sitting right outside the navigation channel of Frank Sound lagoon, most divers struggle to find more than 40 feet of depth. Do not, however, mistake the shallow nature of this dive for a compromise in quality; the site is teeming with life. The easy depth and simplicity of Frank Sound Gardens makes it a great unguided buddy team dive, and the most critter-obsessed divers are the ones who barely move away from under the boat, happily poking around at a leisurely pace just below the surface.
The site comprises a flat sandy bottom on which sits coral fingers and rocky formations, glittering with dappled sunlight from above and giving the whole site an airy, open ambiance. Look for Trunkfish wobbling about the rocky bottom with their ungainly shape, blowing sand away with their mouths to reveal buried meals below. Swimming a little west gives the best chance of seeing Eagle Rays hanging around the navigation channel — the highlight is catching several of them swimming in formation, effortlessly gliding through the water.
