Named for a divemaster who always carried a stuffed Elmo toy on the boat, Elmo's Wall is a dive that constantly surprises with its unique topography, calm conditions, and abundant marine life. Protected from wind and waves, it offers a calm haven on windier days. The distinctive topography strikes immediately on descending: the wall is formed by a narrow ridge running east to west, creating a drop on both sides — to a sandy bottom at 70 feet on the inside, and into the deepest depths on the outside.
Begin the dive by heading through the swim-through right below the boat — its straight walls and flat ceiling are reminiscent of a hallway or corridor. Take care to avoid following the contours of the sandy bottom too aggressively, as it is easy to end up deeper than intended. Beyond the swim-through, the wall opens up with abundant coral and sponge growth, and the calm conditions make Elmo's Wall one of the most relaxed and exploratory dives in the Frank Sound zone.
