Dragon's Lair is named for a section of coral that protrudes from the reef and resembles a fierce dragon's head with its mouth open, ready to breathe fire — it reliably divides divers into those who immediately see it and love it versus those who lack imagination! The site includes a ridge with a drop on both sides, packed with tunnels, nooks, alcoves, and recesses to explore. The dive naturally winds through the dragon's body, zigzagging through diverse topography before reaching the head for the obligatory photo and then heading back toward the boat along its back.
Depending on wind direction, the boat often sits over a section of reef no more than 20 feet deep — what the crew calls an active safety stop. It is so much fun to feel like you are still fully on the dive while completing your three-minute decompression; it beats hanging motionless on a drop line. Following a dive guide is recommended here to ensure you see all the highlights on your first visit.
